I have to admit it, I love food. Especially the food I grow myself, because I know it is good for my family and good for the environment.

There is nothing more rewarding than that feeling of satisfaction you get from growing a meal outside the door. We have a saying in our family “It’s all grown on the property.” A bit tongue in cheek really, but nevertheless, a recognition that we grow some, if not all our own food in our own suburban garden.

All our family and friends love to sit down plates of fresh beans, crunchy salads, a fresh jaboticaba juice or delights like a dish of roasted Kippfler potatoes dug fresh from our own garden that day. You can do the same at home too.

If you don’t have a lot of space, don’t despair. Use your balcony railings to grow snow peas or climbing beans. That’s vertical gardening!

At the base of the pot of beans grow lettuce and herbs. That’s stacking!

And in Permaculture when you grow a selection of plants that benefit each other such as nitrogen-fixing beans with lettuces that need nitrogen and chives that help to deter aphids and bean fly, that’s called a “guild”! It’s somewhat like companion planting.

When I ran a catering business providing scrumptious gourmet foods for group lunches and intimate dinner parties, I realised the joy people experience in eating really fresh foods. I have just related this experience to the sharing of home-grown produce.

Here are some of the recipes we taste at the “Easy Grow” and other Garden Harvest Workshops. The recipes will change from time to time so pop back in and have a look.

If you’d like to learn more, book into a workshop.

You’ll enjoy the experience of growing and cooking your own.
